2 Pot Stove Top Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 3 cups cabbage, chopped
  • 1/2 cup onion
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 (10 1/2 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup water, divided
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups long grain rice, cooked

Method

  1. Prepare the rice in your first pot, aiming for a final yield of 2 cups of cooked long grain rice.
  2. Using a second pot, such as a medium dutch oven, brown the lean ground beef along with the onion and minced garlic clove. Drain any excess fat if necessary and return the mixture to the pot.
  3. To the pot with the beef, add the condensed tomato soup, tomato sauce, 1/2 cup of water, the chopped cabbage, and salt and pepper to your liking. Stir everything together thoroughly.
  4. Place a lid on the pot and cook the mixture for 15-20 minutes, or until the cabbage pieces have softened to your preference.
  5. During the cooking time, stir the contents occasionally. If the sauce becomes overly thick, incorporate the remaining 1/4 cup of water.
  6. To serve, portion the cooked rice onto four plates and spoon the beef and cabbage tomato mixture over the top.
