These homemade bagels are wonderfully fluffy and rely on a famously simple two-ingredient dough. Using self-rising flour and plain Greek yogurt as the base, the dough is kneaded, shaped into rings, and baked until perfectly golden. An egg wash and everything bagel seasoning provide the classic finish. Ready in about 45 minutes, they are an ideal project for a fresh breakfast.

2-Ingredient Dough Bagels

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups self-rising flour, plus more for kneading
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons everything bagel seasoning, or to taste

Method

  1. Combine the self-rising flour and Greek yogurt in a medium bowl, mixing until a shaggy dough forms. Move it to a floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes, incorporating extra flour if the dough feels sticky.
  2. Set your oven to heat up to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  3. Separate the dough into 4 pieces, each weighing roughly 4 ounces. Shape each portion into a smooth ball. Press your thumbs through the centre of each ball and gently stretch the dough to form an even ring.
  4. Place the shaped bagels onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Beat the egg in a small bowl to make an egg wash. Lightly brush this over the top of each bagel, then scatter over the everything bagel seasoning.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 22 minutes. Then raise the oven temperature to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) and bake for a further 3 to 4 minutes until they turn a golden colour.
