This recipe yields wonderfully soft buns, perfected after several attempts. The dough comes together quickly and is very adaptable, making it an excellent base for creating chilli stuffed buns or hotdog stuffed buns. The total preparation and baking time is around 130 minutes, resulting in 4 to 6 servings of fresh, homemade bread.

2 Hour Buns

Ingredients

  • 3 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons fast rising yeast (fleishmans)
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 7 -9 cups flour

Method

  1. Mix the warm water, sugar, oil, salt, and fast rising yeast together.
  2. Stir in the beaten eggs, then incorporate enough flour to create a soft dough.
  3. Coat the dough lightly with oil.
  4. Allow the dough to rise for 15 minutes, then punch it down. Repeat this process every 15 minutes for a total of one hour.
  5. Shape the dough into individual buns and transfer them to greased baking pans.
  6. Leave the buns to rise for a further hour, then bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
