2 Alarm Turkey Chili
This is a lighter adaptation of the well known 2 alarm chili, using lean ground turkey and omitting masa to reduce calories and carbohydrates. It incorporates a 2 alarm chili spice blend for convenience and includes a touch of sweetener. The dish comes together quickly, requiring only about 30 minutes from start to finish, and yields approximately 8 servings.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs lean ground turkey
- 1 (14 1/2 ounce) can chili beans
- 1 (15 1/2 ounce) can chili-ready tomatoes
- 1/2 cup chili pepper
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1/2 tablespoon cumin
- 1/2 tablespoon oregano
- 1 tablespoon red pepper (cayenne)
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon seasoning salt
- 1/8 cup garlic, and onion blend (dried)
- 1/4 cup Splenda granular
- 2 1/2 cups water
Method
- Cook the ground turkey in a skillet until browned, then drain any excess fat.
- In a pot, combine the browned turkey with the chili beans, chili ready tomatoes, water, and all the dry spices and seasonings.
- Allow the mixture to simmer for approximately 20 minutes.
