Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef, up to 1-1/2 lb
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 cup green pepper, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons prepared mustard
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Method

  1. Cook the ground beef in a skillet until browned, then drain off the fat.
  2. Stir the salt, chopped onion and chopped green pepper into the beef. Let it cook for 10 minutes until the vegetables soften.
  3. Pour in the ketchup, mustard, white vinegar and optional Worcestershire sauce. Combine everything thoroughly and check the seasoning.
  4. Put a lid on the skillet and let the mixture cook gently for 25-30 minutes, stirring it now and then.
  5. Spoon the hot filling onto pieces of toast or into hamburger buns to serve.
