This American dinner recipe creates a flavourful vegetarian gravy in a short time. The method uses olive oil and flour to form a roux, which is then combined with a mixture of hot water, ham base and liquid smoke. Whole milk is whisked in gradually until the sauce thickens, finished with a seasoning of black pepper. The entire process takes only 15 minutes to complete and yields four servings.
