15-Minute Pickled Beets (Kitchen Hack)
This clever kitchen hack shows you how to transform a jar of shop-bought pickled beets with a homemade sweet and tangy syrup. The simple syrup, infused with cloves, takes only about 15 minutes to prepare. Once poured over the beets, they need a couple of days in the fridge to develop their full flavour, making this a wonderfully easy way to create a more personalised and delicious condiment.
Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) jar pickled beets
- 0.66666668653488 cup white sugar
- 0.66666668653488 cup white vinegar
- 0.25 teaspoon salt
- 2 whole cloves

- Drain the liquid from the jar of beets, but ensure you leave roughly 1/2 inch of juice at the bottom.
- Place the sugar, vinegar, salt, and cloves into a saucepan. Heat the mixture, stirring now and then, until the sugar fully dissolves into a syrup. this should take about 3 minutes. Take the pan off the heat and allow it to cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Pour the prepared syrup into the jar, ensuring the beets are completely covered. Put the lid on the jar and give it a gentle shake.
- Place the jar in the refrigerator and leave the beets to marinate for 2 to 3 days prior to serving.
