13 Bean Chili
This robust chilli is built on a foundation of a 13 bean soup mix, which is soaked and cooked until tender. Ground beef is browned and combined with onion, garlic, tomato sauce, and seasonings including chilli powder. The entire mixture is then simmered together, resulting in a deeply flavoured and satisfying one dish meal perfect for a crowd.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups 13 bean soup mix
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- garlic (as desired)
- 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 dash pepper
- 1 -2 tablespoon chili powder
Method
- Soak the beans in water overnight.
- Simmer the soaked beans until they become tender, which should take approximately 3 hours.
- In a separate pan, brown the ground beef, then drain away any excess fat.
- Combine the cooked beef with all the remaining ingredients.
- Allow everything to simmer together for 1 hour.
