1,2,3 Hors D'oeuvres
This vintage recipe was discovered in a grandmother's collection. It creates savoury bite-sized pieces from just three core ingredients: ground pork, sharp cheddar cheese, and biscuit mix. The mixture is formed into small balls, which can be prepared ahead and chilled. They are then baked until golden for a quick, crowd-pleasing appetiser, yielding about 70 pieces.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground pork (mild or hot, depending on your taste)
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- 3 cups biscuit mix
Method
- Mix the ground pork, grated cheddar cheese, and biscuit mix together thoroughly.
- Shape the combined mixture into small balls, each roughly the size of a marble.
- Place the balls in the freezer or refrigerator for later use if desired.
- When ready to cook, allow them to reach room temperature, then arrange in a shallow pan and bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
- Serve the warm hors d'oeuvres immediately.
