Basic Quiche
This is a wonderfully versatile and straightforward quiche foundation. You can personalise it with a variety of your favourite additions. The process is simple, involving a savoury egg custard baked within a pastry case until perfectly set. It yields a satisfying dish ideal for a morning meal.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup finely chopped yellow onion
- olive oil
- 3 eggs, lightly beaten
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- salt, to taste
- ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 cup shredded swiss cheese or 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese
- 9 inches unbaked pie shells
Method
- Set your oven to heat to 375 degrees. Cook the finely chopped yellow onion in a small skillet with a little olive oil until it softens, then allow it to cool.
- Combine the lightly beaten eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, ground black pepper, shredded cheese, and the cooled onions in a medium bowl. Transfer this mixture into the unbaked pie shell. Place it in the oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean.
