1-2-3 Apple Crisp
This straightforward dessert features sliced fresh fruit baked under a crumbly, spiced topping of oats, flour, and brown sugar. The recipe is wonderfully adaptable, working just as well with peaches as it does with apples. It is best enjoyed warm from the oven, ideally accompanied by a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. A classic, comforting treat that comes together with minimal effort.
Ingredients
- 8 apples or 8 peaches, peeled
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup oats
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup cold butter
Method
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- Take a 13x9 glass baking dish and grease it lightly.
- Prepare the fruit by peeling it, removing any pits or seeds, and slicing it before arranging the pieces in the prepared pan.
- Combine the brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl, then use a pastry cutter to incorporate the cold butter until the mixture is crumbly.
- Evenly distribute this crumb mixture over the layer of fruit in the pan.
- Place the dish in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- The finished crisp is ready when the topping has turned a golden brown colour.
- Serve the warm crisp with a side of ice cream or whipped cream.
